About this template

KPT (Keep, Problem, Try) originated in Japanese lean manufacturing and is popular in agile teams across Asia. It combines reflection with a built-in action bias: after identifying what to keep and what problems exist, the "Try" column forces the team to propose experiments and solutions immediately.

Best for

  • Continuous improvement cycles
  • Teams practicing lean or Kaizen
  • When you want every retro to produce experiments
  • Short, focused retrospectives (30 minutes)

How to run it

Start with Keep — what practices are working? Then Problem — what's causing friction? Finally, Try — what experiments can we run next sprint? The key is that every Problem should ideally have a corresponding Try. Keep it focused and time-boxed.
